Woman escapes, lockdown revoked after 15-hour alleged siege

A man is assisting police with inquiries after a disturbance overnight that led to a 15 hour alleged siege that shutdown a number of streets in Strathpine.

Officers say they were called to the incident about 1.30am at a Peter Street address, where they began negotiations with a man who was the only resident.

At 4am police declared an emergency situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act, shutting off an area of nearby streets, with a boundary encompassing Gertrude, Peter, Rowland and Cavendish streets.

It is understood an alleged victim, a woman, managed to flee the scene.

The Public Safety Response Team (PSRT) and negotiators responded to the incident.

A neighbour who lives halfway up the street claimed police visited her and said the man could be armed.

“Police have been negotiating with him since 1am,” the neighbour said.

“We have been told to stay indoors and keep the kids home from school.

“(Police) said (the PSPA) could last all day as they will not go in with force.”

Police on Tuesday evening confirmed the PSPA was revoked at 6.40pm and a man was assisting police.

Investigations are continuing.
