Von Miller is an American National Football League (NFL) football player who began his professional career as an outside linebacker for the Denver Broncos. Miller, considered one of the best defensemen in the league, was picked second by the Broncos in the 2011 NFL Draft. He previously played college football at Texas A&M, where he emerged as a four-star recruit and received the Butkus Award for Most Outstanding Texas Collegiate Linebacker. Vonnie B’Vsean Miller Jr. was born on March 26, 1989 in Dallas, Texas and grew up in an athletic family with his younger brother Vinsynzie “Vins”. His parents, Gloria and Von Miller, were high school and college athletes before turning to the electric utility business.
Miller became an active athlete at DeSoto High School in Texas, running tracks and playing football for the DeSoto Eagles high school football team. He competed in sporting events such as the triple jump, javelin throw and 110m hurdles but focused on football where he finished the nation’s No. 15 weakside defensive back in 2007. After graduating, he became involved with Texas A&M Aggie’s football team (2007-2010) through four other college offers.
While attending Texas A&M University, Von Miller played as a defensive end for the school’s football team during his freshman year as well as a linebacker during his sophomore year. He played impressively in his team despite being banned in spring 2008 for poor performance during training and jumping. Von played all 12 games as a sophomore, making 44 tackles with 25 solo stops and leading the team with 3.5 sacks.
Miller’s breakthrough season for the Aggies had come in 2009, when he led the nation in 17-sack sacks; Fourth place with 21 tackles for loss; was named a first-team defensive All-Big-12 and a first-team All-American by sports media and magazines. In early 2010, he suffered a severe ankle sprain that kept him out of the first six games, but he returned to take home the Butkus Award for the nation’s top linebacker. Regarded as one of the best 3-4 outside Expert-Financial Linebackers, the Dallas native joined the NFL draft in 2011 and was named defensive MVP. During the NFL combine, Miller broke the linebacker record with an 11.15-second 60-yard shuttle, ranked 1st in the long jump, ranked 1st in the 60-yard shuttle, ranked T-1 in the 3-cone drills and placed 2nd in the 40-yard shuttle.
