Fournette was born Leonard Joseph Fournette III on January 18, 1995 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is the eldest of four children born to Lory and Leonard Fournette Jr. His family struggled to grow up and could only afford to live in the violent and screaming 7th Ward section of New Orleans.
Despite all the negative attractions, Fournette was able to stay focused on his ambition to become a star athlete and not get sucked into gang life. He attended St. Augustine High School where he was a dual-sport athlete in track and football. As a freshman, Fournette was named a starter on the football team as he recorded over 2,500 yards and 30 touchdowns that season. His numbers were so impressive that he became the first freshman to get a scholarship offer from Louisiana State (LSU).
After his senior year, Leonard Fournette was named the 2013 Louisiana Mr. Football. He was also selected for the USA Parade and USA Today teams, as well as being named the latter’s offensive player. In total, Fournette recorded 7,619 rushing yards and 88 touchdowns during his high school career to become one of Louisiana’s most recruited players with nearly 100 scholarship offers. The player, however, opted to stay close to home and attended LSU where he played from 2014 to 2016.
The high expectations and hype around him didn’t prove to be a distraction as Fournette piled on his stat sheet. In his second season, he recorded the highest rushing yards per game average of 162.8 rushing yards per game and was awarded the title of world champion by the NCAA. He played one more season of college football before announcing his intention to enter the 2017 NFL Draft where he was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the fourth overall pick.

Leonard Fournette’s injury started just before his freshman year at Louisiana State University. He sprained his ankle in a scrum game but was able to return for the season opener. However, in that game, Fournette bruised the same ankle and had to sit out the next game. He resumed his normal activities in the weeks that followed, but injured himself again. He eventually missed six matches due to recurring injuries at various points in the campaign.
As an NFL player, Fournette suffered his first preseason injury on August 12, 2017. He then missed the final 3 preseason games but was able to return for the season opener. Her next visit to the medical ward was in week six. After 21 passes for 130 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams, he had to leave the game with a minor ankle injury. Fournette missed the next match but was able to regain his form after. Along with missing a game due to a hard hit from Seattle Seahawks Count Thomas, Fournette hasn’t suffered any injuries as he continues his road to becoming a hall of famer.
