Katy Jurado is an iconic Mexican-born actress who is considered by many to be responsible for planting Mexican heritage in the American film industry. Jurado was a woman who presented a wonderful and energetic personality who has been famous for playing antagonist roles in Mexican cinema. She soon brought that style to Hollywood and the iconic actress was able to shatter several stereotypes that suggested Latina women were only destined for sexpot roles in American movies.
Katy made her Hollywood debut with the movie ‘The Bullfighter and the Lady’ in 1951. She was one of the main actors in the movie and her performance in this amazing movie was critically acclaimed. María Cristina Estela Marcela Jurado García was born on January 16, 1924. Her father was Luis Jurado Ochua, a lawyer, and her mother Vicenta Estela García de la Garza, a singer. Katy herself also had two brothers Luis Raúl and Oscar Sergio. She grew up in a family full of talented people including her godfather Petro Armendáriz, a famous Mexican actor. However, her family was not very supportive of her life choices in the early stages.

Katy Jurado: Career
Katy was landing roles from a very young age and her family still wasn’t too excited about the idea. Therefore, to get away from the limits of her family, she married Víctor Valazquez who, like Katy, was also an aspiring actor. She then made her debut in 1943 with the film No Mataras. After that, the people who doubted her abilities were amazed. During those years she worked as a film critic, reporter and bullfighting analyst to support her family.
While working as an analyst, Jurado met the American filmmaker Budd Boetticher, who immediately hired her for the film ‘El torero y la dama’. The film that was released in 1951 made headlines around the world. She struggled with English, but her strong determination and personality earned her attention throughout Hollywood.
Jurado then took English classes and was able to land a role in the classic ‘High Noon’. She was able to win a Golden Globe for Supporting Actress for her role in the film. Despite getting all the fame and success for her in Hollywood, she was still working on Mexican movies to help them improve.
Then came his role in the movie Broken Lance. People weren’t sure about giving Jurado the role because of his age. However, age was just a number for this young woman who was exceptional and a perfect fit. She was able to be nominated for an Academy Award for the film.

Now coming to her love life, Katy has been married to 2 men. Her first husband was the Mexican actor Víctor with whom she got together just to get away from the limits established by her parents. The whole thing was a bit shady and the couple was only together for 4 years. However, they had 2 children: the son Victor Hugo and the daughter Sandra.

In 1954, Katy met American actor Ernest Borgnine, who was filming in Mexico. Reports suggest that Ernest constantly courted Katy for the next two years after they met. The two later fell in love and finally said their vows in 1959. Things didn’t last for Katy this time either.
