American impressionist, comedian and actress Kate McKinnon grew up watching Saturday Night Life and today she is one of the stars of the show. Kathryn McKinnon Berthold was born on January 6, 1984, in Sea Cliff, New York, to Laura Campbell, a parenting educator, and Michael Thomas Berthold, an architect. Sadly, Kate’s father passed away when she was 18, leaving their mother to care for Kate and her younger sister, Emily.
Kate developed a passion for music at an early age and began learning to play various instruments, from guitar to piano to cello.
After graduating from North Shore High School in 2002, Kate immediately joined Columbia University, where she graduated in theater in 2006.
In middle school, Kate who had developed a fascination with accents since 5th grade found a new passion in acting and merged it with her musical talent to form an improvisational musical comedy group called Tea Party.
Simultaneously, she was part of the student comedy group Prangstgrüp, which had staged huge collegiate pranks and filmed them.
Kate has also appeared on a number of college shows, including V109 ‘Dial D for Deadline’ and V110 ‘Off-Broadway’.
A year after graduating from college in 2007, Kate began her career as an original member of The Big Gay Sketch Showich and aired on Logo TV for three seasons.
Since then, Kate has never looked back, building her career by appearing in episodes of other shows like Vag Magazine and Robotomy and starring in two short films.
In 2011, she was noticed by SNL and she has remained as one of the main cast members ever since. McKinnon has lent his voice to various animated films and shows, including Nature Cat Family Guy, The Angry Birds Movie, Finding Dory and more.
