Iman Shumpert was born in Oak Park, Illinois on June 26, 1990. He attended Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School, located in Oak Park, Illinois. He was on the school basketball team with future NBA pro Evan Turner. Iman was then enrolled in Oak Park and River Forest High School, where he also joined the school’s basketball team. He helped Oak Park win three conference titles, was named a First-Team All-Star player, and earned himself “Conference MVP” as a junior and senior at school. .
Upon graduating from high school, he was admitted to Georgia Tech in 2008. In his freshman year on the school’s basketball team, Iman averaged 10.5 points and scored 34.5 percent. of his three-point attempts. At the end of the 2010–11 season, he became one of the conference’s all-defensive team members and was also named to the All-ACC Second Team. Professional career
Iman Shumpert’s professional career began when the New York Knicks drafted him with the 17th pick in the NBA rankings in 2011. On April 28, 2012, he was part of the team chosen to face the Miami team Heat. During the first round qualifiers, Iman suffered a knee injury which caused him to miss the rest of the season. However, given his performance prior to the injury, he earned a first-place vote as well as a total of 33 votes on a ballot filled out by various broadcasters around the country and by 120 writers. These votes did well to make him finish the season in 5th position in the 2012 NBA Rookie of the Year poll.
In the Summer League game against the New Orleans Pelicans in July 2013, Iman recorded 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 points. However, the Knicks lost the game by 72-77. He was then traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers on January 5, 2015 and made his debut for the team on January 23 in a game against Charlotte Hornets.
