Quarterback AJ McCarron is one of those players who made football history for his record approach. AJ McCarron was born Raymond Anthony McCarron Jr. on June 13 th of September 1990 in Mobile, Alabama. One day in August 1996, when AJ was just five years old, he was taking his father and a cousin on a ski trip to the Dog River, where he happened to be the victim of a skiing accident that almost took his life. AJ had been clinging to the boat’s handlebars after they hit a buoy. Grabbing the handlebars caused his father to lose control of the jet ski’s speed. Then his father threw his cousin off the ski onto a pier they were approaching and did the same for AJ but he still managed to get hurt.
The doctors’ prognosis was blindness, mental retardation and most likely death, but he managed to escape alive and unharmed.
AJ attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School for kindergarten through fourth grade before attending another religious school, St. Paul’s Episcopal School.
McCarron’s affinity for sports began in his teens in high school, he began playing it as a hobby before joining the school’s football team. In his junior year, he led his team in securing a state championship win against Briarwood Christian School.
When the time came for him to go to college and he would play football at the collegiate level, AJ chose to attend the University of Alabama and be a part of the Crimson Tide team. He was the only quarterback signed that year. His college football career was largely successful, paving the way for a pro career in the sport, which he made in 2014.The first club he played for was the CincinnatiBengals, who signed him to a $2.4 million contract and picked him in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL draft, were struck by his cocky attitude that led to it resulted in his being picked later than predicted. He was with the Bengals for four seasons and in 2018 the Buffalo Bills signed him to a $10 million two-year contract and the following year he was traded to the Oakland Raiders.
He’s won numerous titles in his career and it doesn’t look like he’s slowing down anytime soon.
